In cooperation with Argyll – Ruane Ltd. from the UK, the SGS Training and Examination Center are now offering a new Painting and Coating training courses and examinations in accordance with the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr). The training courses are designed especially to prepare individuals for the end of course examinations for Painting Inspector Level 1 and subsequently for the Coatings Inspector Level 2 examination.

The courses and examinations are conducted in English, however Chinese translators will be available throughout the training and examinations to assist where required.

Below is an example of the syllabus used for the ICorr Painting and Training Courses in our NDT Training Center:

The course is suitable for candidates with or without experience in industrial painting or inspection. It is also applicable to those who require knowledge of painting inspection but do not wish to take an examination. The course covers most of the paint systems used in the industry as well as other coating systems used for anti-corrosion purposes.

General Theory:

  • QA, QC and inspection (basics)
  • Normative documents
  • Corrosion (iron and steel)
  • Surface preparation (ferrous)
  • Tests to detect surface contamination
  • Coating categories/types
  • Main paint constituents
  • Paint drying and curing
  • Corrosion protection methods (basics)
  • Layers of a paint film
  • Types of paint systems
  • Paint data sheets

About the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr)

The Institute of Corrosion is a Learned Society and Registered Charity that has been serving the corrosion science, technology and engineering community in the fight against corrosion since 1959.

Key to this fight are the establishment and promotion of sound corrosion management practices, the advancement of cost effective corrosion control measures, and the sustained effort to raise corrosion awareness in all stages of design, fabrication and operation.

The Institute endorses a series of comprehensive and structured training programs covering essential aspects of the various disciplines within the areas of protective treatment inspection.

All ICorr courses are based on ISO, EN and related international standards and meet the requirements of EN 45013 – the general criteria for certification bodies.
